Job Title: Materials Handling Supervisor

ROLE

The Materials Handling Supervisor is accountable for coordinating the work, its training, monitoring and control of quality, of maintenance technicians on conveyors and materials handling systems in a safe manner, compliant with operational and engineering policies, standards, systems and procedures to maximise plant availability in a compliant, safe, sustainable cost-effective manner and minimize operational risks in order to meet the business’ strategic objective.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Application of HSE regulations with zero tolerance to breaches.
  • Lead by example to create a safe working environment, where risks are assessed and managed, so tasks are performed without risk of injury or harm.
  • Continuous improvement of design and field safety performance.
  • Refurbishment and Maintenance of Conveyor Systems in accordance with the Environmental Management Plan
  • Environmental-related workplace instruction to any employee
  • Zero reportable environmental incidents, zero compliance breaches and no events requiring public disclosure
  • Reduced energy usage by running the mine energy consumption per unit produced at the optimal rate within the sphere of influence

  • Deliver conveyor maintenance work items consistent with the legal compliance required in the refurbishment plan and commencement of operations stages
  • Comply with reporting processes for managing conveyor maintenance that meets cost, schedule and quality expectations consistent with the scope and quality contained in the Feasibility Study within the area of accountability.
  • Proactively control the refurbishment and maintenance process to avoid potential project cost and schedule overruns, whilst maintaining safety, budget, schedule and quality targets.
  • Communicate accurate and timely work progress reports on-schedule delivery, progress, cost and quality information in the area of accountability
  • With Construction Manager, verify, on new builds, the safety, operability, standards, maintainability, and reliability for operation
  • Monitor the compliant completion of the shaft refurbishment, later maintenance, aspects of the Operational Readiness plan for the mining teams including localization plan.
  • Use the systems for the maintenance department to provide effective planning of work, efficient and safe work practices, monitoring of performance and promote continuous improvement.
  • Verify and report the standard of conveyor and material movement maintenance during the Phase1 & 2 Operations
  • Monitor and ensure the shaft maintenance and refurbishment work is of a standard that is compliant, supports the operational requirements of the equipment and is at optimum cost
  • Identify sub-standard work practices, identify the root cause and eliminate by corrective action.
  • Task subordinates in line with requirements for achieving the agreed production plan
  • Work with the team of Specialists to specify, design, analyze and verify new components and systems and strategy
  • Ensure cost impacts in the area of accountability are evaluated, approved and budget is revised
  • Identify, communicate and implement potential cost reduction initiatives
  • Manage the department in line with an operational budget
  • Communicate to subordinates the relevant financial detail to each individual’s level ensuring their understanding and obligations to meet the budget goals

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical, Mechanical or Maintenance Engineering, or equivalent

Experience 

  • An experienced Materials Transport and Conveyor Maintenance Supervisor with over 3 years’ experience in underground mining
  • Experience in Project Management
  • Knowledge of SAP Skills module

Legal Requirements

  • Must possess a Sectional Engineer’s Certificate of Competency from the Mineral Commission of Ghana.
  • Professional Certificated Supervisor with a relevant certification body

Technical Competencies

  • Strong materials movement and conveying competencies in underground mining
  • Excellent knowledge of conveyor and belting maintenance/replacement
  • Sound project management skills

Job Title: Mechanical Technician – Material Handling

ROLE

The Mechanical Technician – Material Handling is accountable for executing all tasked maintenance work on underground/Surface conveyor systems (shift -3, regular-3), safely, in accordance with other compliance requirements, operational and standards, systems and procedures to maximise plant availability in a compliant, safe, sustainable cost-effective manner and minimize operational risks in order to meet the business’ strategic objective.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Work according to total quality management principles & ensure zero-defect objectives & safety

  • Execute daily pre-start checks of equipment/tools prior to leaving workshop. Escalate and report any anomalies
  • Assess all equipment required for completion of the tasked work, create checklist and transport all tools necessary for task completion
  • Complete shift short interval control sheets as required
  • Monitor operating parameters in accordance with standards provided and take corrective action as indicated or required
  • Identify, communicate, and escalate potential cost reduction initiatives to the Supervisor
  • Propose cost savings projects
  • Execute work in a timely manner; escalate real or potential delays to the Supervisor
  • Log monitored equipment performance for entry in asset health system and take proactive measures to register and escalate symptoms of potential failure to Materials Handling Supervisor

Qualifications

  • Secondary / Technical Education

  • Inspecting/Operating Certificate of Competency from Mincom will be an added advantage.

Job Title: Rigger and Ropesman

ROLE

To perform Rigging and Lifting duties within the standards as prescribed by AngloGold Ashanti and work within the guidance of legislation towards compliance. Maintain a standard of excellence throughout the operations and promote a safety culture maintaining fundamental results and delivery of practices. Accountable for the safe and effective load displacement and people in and around the practice. Ensure safe inspection and maintenance of lifting and rigging equipment at Anglo Gold Ashanti work site.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Conduct hazardous inspections and equipment standards and report defects as per set requirements.

  • Operate an issuing and receiving store for the safe and correct storage of lifting, rigging, and other special tools

  • Select gear, such as cables, pulleys, and winches, according to load weights, sizes & facilities
  • Control movement of heavy equipment through narrow openings or confined spaces, using chain falls or other equipment
  • Tilt, Dip and Turn suspended loads to maneuver over, under or around obstacles
  • Install ground rigging for yarding lines
  • Align, level, and anchor machinery
  • Fabricate, set up & repair rigging, supporting structures, hoists & pulling gear

Qualifications

  • Mobile Crane Riggers certificate

Experience 

  • 3 years of proven to experience in a comparable field, preferably construction
  • Ability to use prevision measure tools and equipment

Job Title: Pump Mechanical Technician

ROLE

The Pump Mechanical Technician is accountable for the execution of maintenance work orders on the Dewatering pumps after refurbishment in the transition to operations, through the application of operational policies, standards, processes and procedures to maximize plant availability in a sustainable cost-effective manner and minimize operational risks in order to meet the business’ strategic objective.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Work according to total quality management principles & ensure zero-defect objectives & safety
  • Adhere to site’s Environmental Management Plan
  • Gather information for the Dewatering Supervisor for reporting performance
  • Conduct periodic audits of all Dewatering equipment/pumps in Underground infrastructure
  • Observe and identify actions for continuous improvement
  • Organize information for the Dewatering Supervisor – Underground to allow the development of condition monitoring routes and checks for infrastructure equipment;
  • Receive work orders from and report back in a timely manner for the closure of work orders in the SAP asset maintenance management
  • Execute maintenance work to required tasked quality, according to standards, timeliness and AGAG compliance.
  • As tasked, execute machine checks on a routine scheduled basis. This includes visual checks, vibration data collection, infrared data collection, ultrasonic data collection, motor current and flux data collection, simple NDT data collection;
  • Monitor and report predictive maintenance data (vibration, IR, etc.) to determine plant condition and report this condition for action;
  • Escalate information and observations to allow generation of work requests in SAP as required for maintenance planning and scheduling
  • After completion of work, provide information for correct close out of the work orders
  • Execute routine condition monitoring tasks on all the rotating equipment for data collection according to the established schedules and as plant requirements.
  • Identify, communicate, and escalate potential cost reduction initiatives to the Supervisor
  • Propose cost savings projects
  • Execute work in a timely manner; escalate real or potential delays to Supervisor
  • Provide information as short interval controls to permit logging of monitored equipment performance on the asset health system and take proactive measures to register and escalate symptoms of potential failure
  • Report directly to the Supervisor on issues and identify and execute improvement projects
  • Stop equipment from working if there exists a high risk or unsafe to be used and report to the Supervisor

QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE

Qualification

  • Mechanical apprenticeship or equivalent with a certificate from a recognized institution (e.g. City and Guilds or National Vocational qualification)

Experience 

  • An experienced pump maintenance mechanic with over 5 years’ experience in, preferably, underground environment

Technical Competencies

  • Fully literate and numerate

Job Title: Engineering Superintendent – Pastefill & Material Handling

ROLE

The Engineering Superintendent – Pastefill and Material Handling is accountable for the development and implementation

of Material Handling plants (Conveyors-underground and near shaft banks, Crushers and Chutes) and equipment and Pastefill Plant Maintenance and minor projects through the application of operational engineering policies, standards, systems and procedures to maximize plant availability in a sustainable cost-effective manner and minimize operational risks in order to meet the business’ strategic objective.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Deliver the Safety Management plan elements for the areas under the incumbent’ control
  • Provide technical input to the Maintenance Manager Underground for inclusion to the Safety Manager, Refurbishment Manager, Planning Manager, Technical Services Manager and Construction Manager in order to develop the safety management plan for the construction and refurbishment works, consistent with AGA’s Integrated Management System and Standards
  • Review the application of safety standards and work practices for the refurbishment construction and mining workforce to enable the safety targets to be managed and achieved.
  • As a minimum, achieve zero reportable environmental incidents, zero compliance breaches and no events requiring public disclosure
  • Reduce energy usage by running the mine energy consumption per unit produced at the optimal rate within the sphere of influence
  • Establish the Pastefill and Material Handling Engineering team required to support the role holder in executing the project
  • Ensure the organization structure is capable of delivering the Mine Services maintenance strategy
  • Communicate policies and procedures in a manner so as to achieve full understanding and compliance
  • Provide guidance to subordinates in leadership techniques to achieve maximum performance
  • Develop a skills matrix that includes all disciplines and individual achievements

  • Deliver infrastructure requirements consistent with the procurement and contracting strategy, which addresses the construction time, cost and quality risks.
  • Support interface management with the EPCM contractor for construction and refurbishment works.
  • Liaise with the Manager Planning to develop maintenance planning and management outcomes.
  • Manage Pastefill Plant and Material Handling interaction with respective refurbishment installation contractor and an AGAG maintenance workforce to deliver works that meet cost, schedule and quality expectations consistent with the scope and quality contained in the Feasibility Study within area of accountability.
  • Provide major inputs to Maintenance Manager Underground to allow reporting of Operational Readiness for the Underground engineering/maintenance throughout the operation.
  • Develop the Pastefill Plant and Material engineering aspects of the Operational Readiness plan for the Mining, Mine Planning and Mine Engineering teams including localization plan.
  • Implement the approved organizational structure required to deliver the project targets and future operational requirements.
  • Engage and develop appropriately skilled, capable and experienced personnel in the area of accountability.
  • Support the development and implementation of systems for the Engineering and Mining departments to provide effective planning of work, efficient and safe work practices, monitoring of performance and promote continuous improvement.
  • Ensure the work carried out by the underground Pastefill Plant and Material Handling Engineering team is of a standard that supports the operational requirements of the equipment at optimum cost
